All the Options in the Buffet

The dining hall has plenty of options as we've seen, yet many of us fall into a funk of what to eat. Even though the options change everyday, not everything always seems appetizing. A slice of pizza and some French fries often seem like the only way to go, but I am here to tell you that there are a lot of ways to get creative.

Most dining halls are broken up into different sections: salad bar, sandwich station, specials, desserts, etc. Giving each of theses areas a chance can open your eyes to some hidden gems. Also, you don't have to limit yourself to the options in one section, mixing them can allow some delicious new recipes to shine through.

Try some of these creative treats:

  • Next time you want some freshly steamed veggies, fill up a bowl of your favorites from the salad bar and microwave them with a little bit of water.

  • Trail mix is a great snack to keep you full and carry with you on the go. Fill a bowl or take out container with some granola from the cereal bar, then head to the ice cream station to add some sweet treat like chocolate chips, and finish it with a drizzle of honey from the drink station by the teas.

  • Switch up the pizza game to create a homemade pizza bagel. Layer some marinara sauce from the pasta bar on top of a sliced bagel, then sprinkle on your favorite cheese from the sandwich station. This is super easy to toast or microwave.

  • For a ~healthier dessert option, try grabbing an apple or banana, and dipping it in peanut butter or caramel from the ice cream station.

A go-to for me at the dining hall was having a panini made for me. It was customizable and delicious, and reliable when I wasn't loving the other options. Here is a yummy sandwich idea to change up the routine.

Mexican Wrap:

  • Tomato Wrap

  • Balsamic vinaigrette

  • A handful of shredded mozzarella cheese

  • Corn and bean salsa

  • Jalapenos

  • Tomatoes

Directions:

1. Drizzle balsamic vinaigrette on the tomato tortilla.

2. Add the rest of the ingredients.

3. Roll it up and grill your wrap in the Panini maker.

4. Cut and enjoy!
